Born 1917 in Brighton, England.. At the age of 16, Donald left England for Canada with his mother and younger brother Gordon, and the family soon after settled in Winnipeg.

Following their arrival in Winnipeg, Donald attended high school, and he enrolled in the Winnipeg School of Art. Donald and his brother, Gordon, worked in the design department at Brigdens Limited, which at the time produced the artwork for Eatons mail order catalogue. Apart from providing an income, this part-time job afforded him the opportunity to work alongside some of Winnipegs most talented artists.

Donald is primarily known for his landscape paintings using soft colors and geometric shapes. Donald is a very competent artist although not prolific and therefore remains undervalued. His unique style of painting alwayss reflect a silent, fresh outlook.
