Travis Shilling was born in 1978 near Orillia, Ontario. He is the second son of artist Arthur Shilling. Travis has established his own unique style using broad, confident brushstrokes and a contrasting colourful palette. The brushwork shows the mood and essence of the subject through skillful handling of light and shadow. Different from his father's work, he creates "mindscapes" as well as landscapes. "The mindscapes represent the simplicity of memory and the complexity of colour and light." said the artist in a recent interview. Travis is also a very accomplished portraitist and works with live models giving the paintings an authenticity and honesty. As well as being self taught he has attended the Toronto School of Art, Toronto,Ontario, and the Dundas Valley School of Art, Dundas, Ontario. Travis continues to develop and forge his own path as a figurative painter. He lives and works in his hometown of Rama, Ontario.
