Garner Moody was born in Prince Rupert Britih Columbia in 1958 and was raised in Skidegate, on Haida Gwaii. He is the nephew of the well-known argillite carver, Rufus Moody. Moody displayedwas artistic talent at an early age. He produced many drawings as a child and carved his first piece of argillite when he was 15.

Moody moved to Vancouver in 1987 where he was invited to assist Bill Reid carve his full-scale ‘Lootaas’ canoe. While in Vancouver, Moody learned more about Haida design and argillite carving from Nelson Cross, Alfie Collinson, Ron Wilson (Gitsgah) and Clayton Gladstone.

Garner currently lives on Haida Gwaii where he produces masterful works in argillite, gold jewellery red and yellow cedar.
