Cecil de Trafford Cunningham served briefly in World War I. He won numerous awards and prizes for his watercolours. He is best known for his views of old bridges and buildings in Victoria, British Columbia, as well as other locales on Vancouver Island.
Of special interest to Cecil were the totems, buildings and scenes of village life of the North West Coast and its First Nations people. His archives were purchased by the British Columbia Provincial Archives and a large body of his work is held by Westminster Abbey, Mission B.C.
